Smog Tips

  • Ensure you car is running smoothly: If your car is having problems running, take care of those before you even bother coming in for a smog check. Your car will probably not pass the test if it is having any trouble running. This is important, since you will have to pay for a tune up if you do not pass.

  • Warm up the engine first: Cruise around in your car for at least twenty minutes before you take it in for the smog check. When your car is warmed up and has been driving around for a little bit, it will be performing at its optimum level, which will prevent irregular smog results. If the car is not warmed up sufficiently, it will not have proper combustion, which could hamper your chances of passing the test.

  • Change your oil before the test: This point is very important. If your oil is old and contaminated, it will be high in hydrocarbons, which will result in automatic failure.

  • Inflate your tires to proper pressure: Inflating your tires to the optimum pressure will improve the vehicle’s stability and ensure more accuracy in the smog test. This helps the engine maintain a steady load, preventing any irregularities in emissions.
